A prisoner who smuggled 10 phones into his cell by swallowing them, is said to have needed a surgery to retrieve them.

He is said to be one of the three inmates who had smuggled 19 phones into their cells, a situation that is currently giving the authorities concerns.

The warders were allegedly tipped off when the ingested mobile phones set off metal detectors as the prisoners were being marched in.

As bizarre as it sounds, authorities claim that one of the prisoners had five small mobile phones tucked into his anus, while another prisoner had four inside his body.

The third prisoner reportedly had 10 phones in his stomach, in addition to unnamed number of headphones. He had reportedly swallowed them all.

Authorities say the two prisoners who hid the phones in their anuses did not require surgery to have them removed, but the one who had the 10 phones in his stomach had to undergo surgery to have them removed.

Police have reportedly seized the devices and are said to be investigating the incident.

The phones are said to be thumb-sized, hence the ease of swallowing or forcing them inside the anus.

The incident reportedly happened in Presidente Bernardes Prisons, in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo.
