The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Daniel Essien, a barber, for allegedly defiling a six- year- old girl.
His arrest was said to have followed a complaint lodged to the police by the victim’s mother, Ayoola Tolulope, who resided on Olufemi Oshin Street, Alagbole, Akute, in the Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
The victim’s mother reported that she was called by her child’s school teacher to watch over her daughter because the girl confided in the teacher that a man had been sexually abusing her.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said this made the mother to interrogate the child and she told her that the culprit was Essien.
Oyeyemi, A Deputy Superintendent of Police, said, “On the strength of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Ajuwon division, Afolabi Kazeem, led detectives to the area, where the suspect was promptly arrested.”
He said on interrogation, the suspect first denied the allegation.
The police spokesman added that after the girl was taken to a hospital and the medical report confirmed it, he owned up to the commission of the crime.
