A 70-year-old man who claims to be retired colonel from the Nigerian Army and went about defrauding people has been nabbed by the Federal Capital Territory police command.

The suspect, Adamu Sule, an indigene of Gombe State, apart from posing to be a retired colonel, also claimed to be the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Defence Matters.

Armed with a fake identity card bearing Col. Adamu Sule, Senior Special Adviser to the President, and complimentary cards to suite his self-acclaimed position, the suspect, who resides in Kaduna, usually lures his victims with promises of getting them juicy contracts from the presidency with his connection and closeness to the president.

Police say his victims are mostly very influential people in the public and private sectors as well as top government functionaries who are in the business of scouting for big contracts.

The fake colonel though resident in Kaduna travels to Abuja often to get his prey.

However, nemesis caught up with him when after several reports to the police by some of his victims, the police went in search of him.

He was eventually arrested somewhere at Maitama, by police operatives attached to Maitama Division, who went after him after a tip off.

After his arrest, he tried to convince the policemen that he was a retired army officer and asked them to cooperate with him for the sake of esprit-de-corp.

He revealed that he was actually on his way to see a former governor who he had an appointment with but the policemen would not listen to his lies and got him arrested and took him to the station.

Seeing that his game was up, he decided to open up and told the investigators nothing but the truth and how he has succeeded in duping a good number of people and made some good money in the process.

He was then searched and found to be in possession of the fake identity card and complimentary cards, the basic tools he operates with.

The police public relations officers in charge of the FCT, Anjuguri Mamza, told Abuja Metro, that the suspect had since been transferred to the Command Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
