Police arrest robbery suspects in Rivers


Men of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested four suspected armed robbers, including a 38-year-old female, operating within Port Harcourt and its environs.

Security operatives had on Tuesday stormed the hideout of the suspected robbers at Ibadan Waterfront in the state capital to apprehend them.

It was gathered that the robbers were taken unawares as the team of policemen raided their hideout in the wee hours.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Muhammad, who confirmed the arrest of the hoodlums, said a patriotic Nigerian had informed the police about a strange movement at Ibadan Waterfront.

Muhammad disclosed that five AK-47 rifles were recovered from the armed robbers.

“The Rivers State Police Command arrested the suspected criminals and recovered five AK-47 rifles on Tuesday 09/02/2016 at about 0500 hours. A patriotic citizen reported to the police of a suspicious movement at Ibadan Waterfront, Port Harcourt.

“Quick response on the information by combine teams of police led the arrest of four suspects namely Francis Anderson ‘m’ 38 years, Gift David ‘m’ 18 years, Richard Toria ‘m’ 23 year and Barikwa Godspower ‘f’ 32 years.

“Exhibits recovered from them, included five AK-47 rifles, six magazines and 120 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition,” the state police spokesman added.

He further disclosed that two Toyota Camry vehicles with registration numbers MUS 583 DF, and SMK 577 BZ were also recovered from them.

According to him, the four suspects were undergoing interrogations with a view to fishing out other members of the gang.

Muhammad warned criminals to leave the state or face the wrath of the law whenever they were caught, adding that security operatives had been positioned in different areas of the state to arrest criminals.
