He said, “A man reported at the station that a neighbour assaulted him. So, the police sent the corporal and three others to the area. The policemen are from the Ayinla division.
“But hoodlums swooped on them while they were making the arrest. The three other officers fled from the scene, leaving the corporal to be beaten until he fainted. They also stabbed him.
“After the hoodlums were done, they fled. I think they took advantage that there were two females among the officers. The policeman was rushed to a hospital for treatment.”
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the policeman was attacked.
He added that the corporal had been treated, and the suspects would be charged to court for assaulting a policeman on duty.
He said, “We did not lose the policeman to the incident. He and others had gone to make an arrest. One of the residents had assaulted another resident and the case was reported to the police.
“Some hoodlums gathered themselves and attacked the policeman. Our men have been warned not to fire. They managed the attack and they were able to arrest four of the suspects.
“We are going to charge the suspects to court. Nobody has the right to beat up a policeman on duty.”
