Nasarawa police arrest rustlers, recover 106 cattle


Nasarawa State Police Command said it had arrested two suspected cattle rustlers and recovered 106 stolen cows and 20 sheep from them.

The cattle were recovered at different locations in Awe Local Government Area of the state.

Parading the suspects and 19 others for various criminal offences at the police headquarters in Lafia, the state police commissioner, Mr. Lawal Shehu, said that the suspects were arrested by men of the anti-robbery squad of the command following a tip-off.

Items recovered from the suspects include two AK-47 rifles, one AK-49 rifle, 127 rounds of live ammunition, two complete sets of military uniforms, two face masks, 11 handsets, two unregistered motorcycles, charms and two cutlasses.

A gang of four armed robbers, who confessed to robbing motorists and passengers of their valuables along the Jos-Akwanga Road, were also paraded. Items recovered from them include 30 SIM cards, two handsets, two machetes, one iron cutter and 15 pieces of wrappers valued at N90, 000.

Another gang of six, including a female member, who referred to themselves as “one chance,” confessed to extorting motorists along the Keffi-Abuja Road.

Shehu expressed the commitment of his command to act decisively within its statutory mandate to ensure that criminal elements were apprehended and prosecuted.

He urged the state residents to continue to cooperate with the command in the fight against criminality.
