The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Bayelsa State Command, says it has arrested one of the suspected criminals that planted the dynamites that killed three oil workers in the state on Easter Sunday.

Three oil workers, said to be employees of an oil servicing firm, reportedly lost their lives in a pipeline explosion which occurred in Olugboboro community of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

The deceased were reportedly carrying out repair work on a leaking crude oil pipeline belonging to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company when the tragedy struck.

But setting the record straight, the Commandant, NSCDC, Mr. Desmond Agu, said the oil workers had successfully completed the repair work when the dynamites planted by the suspect and his cohorts, now at large, exploded and killed them.

The Commandant gave the name of the suspect as Seimghale Perekeyi. The names of the fleeing accomplices were given as Emekoko Taribo, Pani Bulogbo, James Komo and Samuel Joyce.

Agu noted, “The NSCDC has arrested a suspected vandal by name Seimghale Perekeyi. This vandal along with other vandals attacked Agip pipeline at Olugboboro, Southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa State on March 26, 2016 about 1830 hours with dynamite.

“The anti-vandalism unit of the command trailed and arrested him (Perekeyi) while the others are at large but are still being trailed by our men.”

Agu, who paraded Perekeyi and two other suspected oil thieves at the state headquarters on Wednesday, said Perekeyi would be tried and prosecuted according to law while the hunt for the other fleeing vandals continued.
