Some gunmen on Tuesday shot dead a man, identified simply as Akor, in Rumuche community, in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It was gathered that Akor, 23, was killed in his father’s compound around 10pm.
It was learnt that the assailants dragged their victim out of bed.
A neighbour, Mr. Chizi Enyi, said Akor was shot in the presence of his mother.
Enyi said, “The mother of the man rushed out from her room when the gunmen pounced on their victim to plead on his son’s behalf.
“Her pleas fell on deaf ears as the hoodlums shot her son in her presence.”
A source said the killing was cult-related, adding that the killers were cultists.
The source said, “Trouble started when a political party bought a cow for Rumuche community.
“Akor failed to share the cow with other youths in the area. Some aggrieved cultists killed Akor for failing to produce the cow, which was alleged to be in his possession.”
The Rivers State Police Command spokesperson said he had not been fully briefed on the incident.
