NSCDC arrests five for adulterating fertilizer


The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Thursday said it had arrested five people suspected to be dealing in adulterated fertilizer.

The Commandant of the NSCDC in Bauchi State, Ibrahim Raji, stated this while briefing newsmen at the Command’s headquarters in Bauchi.

He disclosed that the arrest was made at Gudum area of the Bauchi metropolis on Tuesday, August 2, at about 12:00noon.

He said “The suspects were arrested in the process of mixing fertilizer with lump stone/sand to produce the adulterated products with the intention of re-bagging it thereafter.”

Raji gave the names of the suspects as Auwal Mohammed (27), Mukhtar Yusuf (21) and Jafar Auwal, (21) all of unguwan Doya, Bauchi.

Others, according to him, include Abdulrazak Yakubu (23) of central market, Bauchi and Abdulrahman Mubarak (20) of shekal, Bauchi.

He said the items recovered from them include more than 100 bags of fertilizer, one tiger generator set, three pickup vans used in conveying the products, one sealing machine and several empty sacks.

He said investigation was still ongoing.
