A 35-year-old fake operative of the Department of State Service, Chris Akpati, who was allegedly paid eighty thousand naira to arrest some traditional chiefs of Idemili community Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, has been arrested.
The Commissioner for Police in Delta State, Zanna Ibrahim, announced the arrest of the suspect in a statement issued on Sunday. He said the fake DSS officer was working for one Agboma Sunday.
Ibrahim said both Akpati and Sunday were arrested when the impersonator went to the community to arrest with the intention of eliminating the chiefs whom Sunday accused of killing his son.
The CP noted that one Okon had reported at the Kwale police division that Akpati called him on phone, introduced himself as a DSS official from Abuja and informed him that he had a petition written against him (complainant) by one Agboma Sunday in respect of his son, who was killed in the area sometime ago.
“The said fake SSS personnel later went to Idemili to effect the arrest of the complainant with the motive of gathering other chiefs in the community with the complainant to be eliminated by Agboma Sunday and his thugs in vengeance of his late son’s death. It was further revealed that Agboma Sunday paid N80, 000.00 to Chris Akpeti for the job.”
The statement also disclosed that a fake police officer, who was escorting a Mercedes Benz truck with Reg. No.ABU 208 UV belonging to Alon Technical Services Limited in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State was arrested in police uniform.
Ibrahim said the fake officer, identified as Chiemeka Telvin, 43, was arrested along Abraka/Obiaruku road by the operatives of SARS based in Eku Ethiope East Council Area of the state.
He added, “The vehicle, loaded with some welding materials, was being escorted by one Chiemeka Telvin ‘m’ who was dressed in full police uniform with F/No. 429000 and a sergeant rank. On-the-spot-inquiry revealed that the said Chiemeka Telvin is a fake policeman.
“He was consequently arrested along with the driver while the vehicle was impounded. Investigation is in progress.”
Meanwhile, four members of a five-man kidnapping syndicate operating within Asaba, the state capital, and its environs have been arrested by police operatives during a failed kidnap attempt.
The statement gave the names of the arrested suspects as Malachy Chikwado, 28, of No. 10, Okocha Street, Cable Point, Asaba; John Obi, 22, of No. 22 Femi-Okun Estate Lekki, Lagos; Osita Obiakwe, 24, of Jarret Street, Ogbe-Ofu, Asaba and Ezeah Chinedu, 36, of Uzowani, Igbueze L.G.A, Enugu State.
“On 13/11/2016, at about 1710hrs, a five-man kidnap gang led by one Malachy Chikwado ‘m’ lured one man (name withheld) and his girl friend to Dema Kitchen, Asaba. While there at Dema Kitchen, other members, one John Obi ‘m’ , Osita Obiakwe ‘m’, Ezeah Chinedu ‘m’ and two others now at large left their gang leader, Malachy Chikweado, with their targeted victim and went to lie in wait for him in a bush around his house at Bonsac area Asaba.
“As the victim was returning home, the suspects came out and attempted to kidnap him into a Toyota car. The victim however raised the alarm which attracted people from the neighborhood, thereby forcing them to abandon their prey and escape. On receipt of the report, Operatives of SAKCCS commenced diligent investigation and arrested the aforementioned suspects from different locations”, the statement added.
