A bar fight over missing phone has resulted in the stabbing of a man with a broken bottle by the owner, the prosecution told a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday.
Twenty-seven-year-old Gbenga Ibrahim, who allegedly stabbed the man in the neck, was arraigned on a charge of grievous assault.
After Ibrahim’s plea of innocence of the offence, Magistrate Omolaja Kazeem remanded him in prison pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Fidelis Dike had told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 14 at 3.00p.m. at Valtime Bar,Elemoro, Ajah on the Lagos-Epe Expressway.
According to him, the accused stabbed Mr Bayo Adenuga with a broken bottle in the neck during a bar fight injuring him in the process.
“The accused, whose phone was missing at the bar, claimed it was Adenuga who stole the phone.
“A fight ensued between them and the accused stabbed him with a broken bottle.
“The police patrol came to the scene and arrested the accused while Adenuga was rushed to the hospital where he is still receiving treatment,” he said.
The offence contravened Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the carries a penalty of three years imprisonment.
