The Lagos State Police Command on Monday paraded eight suspected cult members said to have been involved in a brutal clash that claimed three lives.
Among the dead was a 65-year-old woman, Adejoke Adefuye, who was burnt to death at her residence on Oshinfolarin Street, Bariga on Saturday.
Adejoke was reportedly killed as a reprisal for the death of two suspected members of the AiyeConfraternity, Daniel and Abiye.
The Bariga Police Division, supported by the Rapid Response Squad and other neighbouring divisions, had apprehended the suspects.
The suspects had been transferred to the Anti-Robbery Section of the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.
The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, paraded eight suspects at the command headquaters in Ikeja on Monday.
Among them was the alleged leader of the gang, Tanimola Ogbere, aka Who Knows Tomorrow.
Also paraded were Richard Abayomi (30), Richard Ewa (31), Kayode Dada (25), Afex Fagunwa (32), Nurudeen Lateef (22), Mohammed Musa (28) and Adamson Adelani.
However, the suspects denied being involved in the killings, saying they belonged to a cult faction opposed to one Ibrahim Balogun, a suspected Eiye leader.
Ogbere said, “I was not involved in any killing. My charms are for my protection. I and my group members are only defending ourselves against Balogun, who is behind the killings.”
Owoseni said the police were working on getting other suspects, adding that they would be arraigned in court at the end of investigations.
