Students of the Osun State College of Education, Ilesa staged a public protest on Thursday to demand reversal of lecturers and members of non teaching staff sacked by the governing council of the institution.
The protesting students, who were led by Students’ Union officials chanted anti-government songs while calling on Governor Rauf Aregesola to revere the sacking of over 200 workers in the institution and three other tertiary institutions owned by the state government.
The protesters were watched by policemen to prevent dustruction of lives and property.
The students marched through some streets in Ilesa and headed for the palace of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran where they appealed to the monarch to intervene in the matter.
The students said they could not afford to waste another time to strike, having lost almost five months to strike in 2015.
The President of the Students Union, Mr. Felix Alalade, who spoke to journalists after the protest said the entire students of the college held an emergency congress and resolved ro embark on demonstrations to make known their displeasure about the mass sacking which forced the lecturers to declare an indefinite strike.
