16-yr-old electrocuted to death in Calabar

Residents of No 7 Beckle Davis in Calabar-South were yesterday thrown into mourning when the news that 16 year old, Thank-God Ugwuanyi, a JSS 3 student of Sacred Heart Secondary school had been electrocuted to death along Goldie Street in Calabar.

An eyewitness who preferred anonymity said that the unfortunate incident which occurred at about 11a.m yesterday around Goldie Street happened within a twinkle of an eye.

His words:” It happened so fast that nobody could do anything to save the young boy. We saw him and another man trying to paint a house because he was assisting the man up the; ladder with the paint, the only thing I saw was when the man on top fell from the ladder we then discovered that his boy had been electrocuted” he said.

“The ladder had mistakenly leaned on the life high tension wire but the current threw the man on top down while it killed the boy that was assisting him to hold the ladder.

He died on the spot because the current was really high and nothing could have been done for him as he was badly injured” he submitted.
On visiting the relatives at Beckle Davis Friday morning, they confirmed the incident and told us that since he was just 16 years there was no need keeping him.

The family source who did not want his name in print told Saturday Vanguard “we will bury him first thing tomorrow morning.”

However there was another twist in the matter as the man who took Thank-God to do the job with him has been arrested by the police as part of investigation into the matter.

A security sourcesaid that he had to be arrested to ascertain if there was conspiracy of any form leading to his death. Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, Cross River state command, ASP John Eluu failed as at the time of filing this report.
