Police detectives in Ondo State have arrested a 42-year-old man, Samuel Omosaba, for allegedly beheading his three-year-old niece for ritual. The niece, Adubarin Kola, was murdered at Ilepa quarters in Ikare-Akoko, Akoko North-East Local Government Area of the state.
Police source said that the suspect, who is single and jobless, allegedly contacted a herbalist, who resides at Ipe-Akoko area of the state, for money ritual and he was reportedly asked to come with the head of someone aged below five years.
It was also gathered from sources in the Ilepa Quarters of Ikare that the deceased’s mum, identified as Bunmi, usually kept her with the grandmother whenever she goes hawking.
The sources added that on the ill-fated day, when she took her to the mother-in-law’s place where he met the suspect as the old woman was said to have gone out, “the suspect promised to look after the niece before his mother returns.”
When Bunmi returned, the lifeless body of her child was found in the suspect’s room. He reportedly told the family members why he beheaded the three-year-old girl.
It was gathered that the news spread across the town as youth in their hundreds stormed the suspect’s home, attempted to razed it and lynch him, but for the intervention of police, who reportedly whisked him away.
Police spokesman, Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident, said the matter is been investigated by the State Criminal Investigative Department, CID.
