Neighbour stabs pregnant woman to death over N1,000 debt

A six-month old pregnant woman, identified as Mrs. Ikhuoria, has been allegedly stabbed to death by her neighbour over a debt of N1,000.

It was learnt the incident occurred on Iyamu Street, off Textile Mill Road, in Benin, the Edo State capital.

The deceased was said to have gone to her neighbour, identified as Mama Emmanuel, to demand a repayment of a N1,000 loan.

The owner of the house located on Iyamu Street, where the incident occurred, Mrs. M. Okojie, said she was at the back of the house when she heard somebody shout.

Okojie said she found the deceased bleeding and rushed her to a private hospital, where doctors referred her to another hospital.

She said, “I was working at the back of the house when I heard somebody shouting. I had to rush her to a private hospital when I saw the way she was bleeding. Doctor said it was an internal bleeding and I should take her away so I called the husband.”

The husband of the victim, Ediale Ikhuoria, who also narrated what happened, said, “My wife lent her N1, 000 and when she demanded for the money, Mama Emma stabbed her. She killed my wife; my wife was six months pregnant. She died on Monday morning.”

The Police spokesman in the state, Mr. Osifo Abiodun, said he had not been briefed on the incident.
