A 45-year-old mechanic, Edward Azinka, in Okpanam community near Asaba has reportedly sacked his wife over her involvement in a two-day vigil organised by a church.
It was gathered that the woman, Awele Azinka, was sacked by her husband, a local mechanic in the area, for disobeying him and attended the church vigil without performing her matrimonial duties.
Reports said the housewife had before the event informed her husband of the vigil for housewives to ward off sudden death.
But this was not to be when the man threatened he would ensure the wife was sacked from the house if she dared attend the vigil without his permission.
Speaking with Southern City News, the housewife, who claimed the husband’s decision was too rash for her to contend with, said, “I was invited for a two-day vigil in a nearby church; Holy Mission, and I did mention it to my husband.
“Instead of giving me the go-ahead, he threatened to throw away my property. I did not listen to him; I went, but see what I have suffered.”
It was further gathered that her husband had also complained of pastors allegedly having their ways with married women through vigil, hence he insisted the wife should not attend the night meeting in the church.
He said, “I don’t like to see my wife at vigil or any night event and I warned her to stay away from anything called all night vigils. Instead, she went without my consent and I vowed she could no longer remain my wife.”
Mrs. Azinka, family sources said, had allegedly been criticised by her husband since they got married in 2004 for taking to religious ways.
As at 13, the woman was said to have been baptized in immersion of the Holy Spirit after which her interest soared with profound obedience to the will of God.
The pastor of the church where the woman attended the two-day vigil, Pastor Frank Otobore, said, “We as a church have pleaded with the husband of the woman to no avail and the woman has packed to her parents’ house in Ugbolu community with her two children”
