30-year-old in court over alleged possession of stolen car


A 30-year-old man, Egbo Nwachukwu, was on Tuesday docked at a Badagry Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly being in the possession of a stolen car valued at N850, 000. 

The accused, who resides at No 34, Ajelasoun Road, Ajara, is facing a count charge of unlawful possession of a stolen property. 

The Prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused, in company of two others now at large, on April 29, on Lagos/Badagry Expressway received the a Nissan Sunny car suspected to be stolen from one Sunday Uche. 

He said that the car belonged to one Idahosa Modum. The prosecutor said that the offence was punishable under Sections 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. 

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty. Counsel to the accused, Mr Joba Adeleke, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms, saying that his client would always attend court proceedings. Adeleke, assured that the accused would not jump bail. 

The Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, admitted the accused to N500, 000 bail with a surety in like sum. Etti added that the surety must present evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and adjourned the case to June 21 for further hearing.
