Baby, others killed in Bauchi road crash


Four people including a 16-month-old baby were killed on Thursday night in a fatal motor accident at Narabi village along Bauchi – Jos Federal Highway.

The tragic incident also left eight others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.

Spokesman for the Bauchi State Police Command, Haruna Mohammed, in a statement made available to newsmen in Bauchi, the capital, on Friday, stated that the victims were certified dead by a medical doctor at a hospital they were taken to.

He said, “The accident occurred when a fully loaded red Daf truck with registration number XA 149 PKM driven by one Mohammed Ali, a 30-year-old male from Potiskum, lost control at Narabi town, hit four vehicles and knocked down pedestrians. As a result, twelve victims sustained various degrees of injuries.

“Police patrol teams attached to Toro division visited the scene and rushed victims to General Hospital, Toro, for treatment. Four persons including two women, a baby and one passenger were certified dead on arrival at the hospital by a medical doctor.”

Mohammed, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, added that the “particulars of the deceased are Amina Mohammed, female, 47, from Jingre ward in Kaduna State; Ummi Ibrahim, female, 18; a 16-month-old baby and Nahemia Lamiri, a 48-year-old male from Potiskum.”

The PPRO disclosed that three corpses were released to relatives for burial after post-mortem examinations were conducted, while eight other victims are responding to treatment.
