A 28-year-old man, Adamu Mai Bisco, has killed his parents and two sisters in the Potiskum area of Yobe State.
The action of the suspect was said to be under the influence of hard drugs.
Some of the people of the area where the crime took place said, however, that the parents of the suspect had threatened to report him to security agents for allegedly being a Boko Haram member.
One of the residents, who pleaded not to be named, said, “I gathered that the parents said they would report him to a security agency as a Boko Haram member. He did not take that threat lightly, and so decided to kill them along with his siblings while they were all asleep.”
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Yobe State Police Command, Mr. Toyin Gbadegesin, said the offence was against Section 221 of the Penal Code.
He said, “The suspect, Adamu Mai Bisco, 28, of the Bataiya area of Potiskum, Yobe State, apparently acting under the influence of hard drugs – Marijuana and Tramol capsules – killed his father, mother and two sisters while they were fast asleep. He picked up a shovel, attacked and killed them. The incident took place at about 1am on Monday.
“Upon the receipt of a distress call, the police moved in, arrested the suspect and recovered the exhibit. The suspect is still being interrogated.”
The police spokesman said interim investigation reports showed that the suspect was a drug addict, adding that he confessed to have consumed illicit drugs.
“The remains of the victims were taken to a hospital for autopsy. The suspect will also be charged to court.”
