No fewer than 13 suspected cultists have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command in the Ilasan, Ajah end of the Lekki-Epe Expressway for allegedly vandalising cars and shops.
It was gathered that the suspects were arrested by the Maroko Police Division last Tuesday after the hoodlums went on the rampage around the Ilasan Housing Estate towards Lekki Beach area.
Our correspondent learnt that the cultists who came in around 2am, invaded Labaster Street, and started vandalising the vehicles on the street.
The hoodlums were said to have come on a reprisal over the death of one of their gang leaders, identified only asThunder.
A resident, who gave his name as Prince Kami, said the hoodlums stabbed a man to death during the mayhem.
He said, “The gang came at about 2am on Tuesday. They gave an announcement in pidgin English, saying, ‘If anybody come out, shoot am, cut am, make una no come out o’. They later found a young man and stabbed him to death. They dumped his corpse on a field.
“They also destroyed cars and injured anyone who met them.”
A witness, identified only as Godey, whose car was vandalised, said despite the rain on the day, the cultists were not discouraged from the attack.
He said, “My car’s windscreen and right side windows were shattered. No car on my street was spared. The police were duly called on the telephone, but they did not come on time. Some cars parked near the police station were not spared by the hoodlums.
“The hoodlums used the Tuesday rain as cover to perpetrate the violence. They went to Labaster Street, Last Quarters and around a private school, wielding cutlasses and breaking bottles.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the violence, adding that the police had restored normalcy to the area.
She said, “No death was reported. About 13 cult members have been arrested in connection with the rampage. Normalcy has been restored. The case is still under investigation.”
