Two brothers – Chukwuedo Mogaha (30) and Amaechi Mogaha (33) – have been jailed for gang raping a 12-year-old girl in the Oshimili-South Local Government Area of Delta State.
While Chukwuedo is to spend 14 years in jail, his brother, Amaechi, will spend seven years in prison.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer, Delta State Ministry of Justice, Ivovi Aruoriwo, said an Akwukwu-Igbo High Court in Delta State, presided over by Justice Marcel Okoh, found the two brothers guilty of the charges of conspiracy and rape.
The statement said the incident happened on June 6, 2015.
The statement read in part, “The first accused, Chukwuedo, was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for the offence of conspiracy to commit rape, and 14 years with hard labour, for the substantive offence of rape.
“The second accused, Amaechi, was sentenced to seven years in jail for count one, while he was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment with hard labour for indecent assault.
“An Assistant Chief State Counsel from the State Ministry of Justice, A. P. Popo, told the court that the two randy brothers committed the offences inside the classroom of a primary school where they overpowered the innocent girl. The court held that the sentences were to run concurrently.”
