The police in Ogun State have arrested an ex-policeman, identified only as Tunde, and two security guards of Flour Mills Nigeria Limited, over alleged burglary.
It was learnt that the guards, simply identified as Sulaiman and Ola, manned the firm’s new site at Araromi Orita village in Atan, Ado Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state.
The guards were employed by the company on Tunde’s recommendation.
The suspects were accused of stealing some materials used for building construction.
It was learnt that a site supervisor discovered that some materials had been missing from a store on the siteovertime.
The alleged theft was said to have been reported at the Onipanu Police Division, leading to the arrest of the guards and their alleged mastermind, Tunde, last Wednesday.
A worker in the company, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the matter was reported to the police after property estimated at thousands of naira was discovered missing.
He said, “Flour Mills employed the two guards to secure its new branch in Atan which is under construction. The company relied on Mr. Tunde’s recommendation of the guards because he was an ex-policeman. He resigned from the Force many years ago.
“For some months now, materials like iron rods worth thousands of naira had been missing. The case was reported to the police after the key of the store where the materials were kept was broken, and the three of them were arrested.”
A police source said the three men were arrested for suspected burglary, adding that some other workers on the site would also be investigated.
He said, “We got a report that they stole some property belonging to the company and we arrested them. But they were not caught in the act.
“They were later released on bail because there was no evidence to prosecute them. They still have a case to answer as investigation is ongoing. We are keeping a tab on other workers on the site as well.”
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that Tunde and the two guards were arrested.
He said, “The ex-policeman and the guards were arrested in connection with theft. Investigation is ongoing to get to the root of the matter.”
