N20m ransom demanded to free Foursquare member

Kidnappers have demanded N20m ransom from the family of a member of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Calabar, Mr. Patrick Obasse, who was abducted on Sunday.

Obasse, who is a worker of the Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State, was abducted at about 9am on his way to the church.

Our correspondent learnt on Tuesday that the abductors got in touch with members of his family on Monday to make the demand.

However, the state Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Mr. Lawrence Ekwok, lamented that kidnappers had been targeting PFN members in Calabar.

Ekwok said the PFN would seek God’s divine intervention over the release of Obasse.

He said, “A member of the PFN, Patrick Obasse, of the Foursquare Gospel Church, was kidnapped on Sunday on his way to the church.

“He is the district convocation committee chairman of his church for 2016. This is a kidnap too many. From every indication, it appears that PFN members have become the target of kidnappers in Cross River State.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, said she was not aware of the kidnap.
