Gunmen kill hotel guest in Jos

Some gunmen on Sunday afternoon stormed a hotel, La-Paz Guest House, located in the Utan area of the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing a guest.

Our correspondent learnt that the gunmen stormed the hotel around 2pm when some of the guests were relaxing. They (the robbers) reportedly shot indiscriminately and later killed a man.

The gunmen were said to have left immediately without taking anything along with them.

The corpse of the victim was said to have been deposited at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Jos, while men of the Criminal Investigation Department had commenced investigation into the matter.

The Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Tyopev Terna, who confirmed the story, however, said the police were working on the theory that it was not armed robbery but culpable homicide.

He said that that the police arrived at this conclusion because the unknown gunmen just walked into the hotel and went straight where the victim was seated with a group of friends, shot him point-blank and left without taking even his handset.

Terna said, “It was not really a marked robbery attack because the gunmen did not take anything after killing their target. We are suspecting culpable homicide and the incident is being investigated.”

He added that the case was reported to the police by the manager of the hotel, John Ogah.
