Kidnappers kill three policemen in Rivers

Gunmen on Wednesday night killed three mobile policemen in Choba community, Obio/Akpor Local government Area of Rivers State.

The gunmen also kidnapped two brothers, who were suspected to be their target, during the attack.

The PUNCH gathered that the hoodlums had earlier attacked a new boutique in the area, located opposite the University of Port Harcourt’s Choba campus.

A source, who simply identified herself as Kate, told our correspondent that the gunmen, on arrival at the boutique, shot one of the mobile policemen around the building that housed the boutique.

The source said the gunmen scared passers-by with gunfire before moving the two brothers, suspected to be their main target, into a Toyota Spider car.

She stated that the gunmen moved the two brothers to Choba waterside where they transferred them into a waiting speedboat.

According to the eyewitness, when the gunmen were about to transfer their victims into the speedboat, they killed two mobile policemen said to be attached to one of the companies, around Choba market.

They policemen were said to be on night duty.

She said, “Kidnappers last night attacked one boutique close to Genesis Fast Food and kidnapped the two brothers that run the boutique.

“When they were operating, they killed a MOPOL that guards the place. They put the two boys in their Spider car and drove them to Choba waterfront.”

The incident caused tension in the area as business owners retired to their homes early.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, said he would speak on the matter when fully briefed.

Omoni said, “We are aware as much as you have heard it; we are aware, but the details of what happened will be made available to you soon.”
