Akwa Ibom man kills step-mum, flees

A 25-year-old man, Edikan John, has allegedly killed his stepmother in Esit Urua community, in the Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Our correspondent learnt on Thursday that the suspect killed the woman around 10pm on Saturday.

It was learnt that the suspect, after killing his stepmother, fled and had yet to be found.

The victim’s widower, Julius John, said he had asked his wife to join him in bed that evening, but she said she wanted to take fresh air outside.

Julius said while asleep, he was aroused by a shout from his wife.

He added that he later discovered that the victim had been hacked to death by his son, Edikan.

“It was not long after I left for bed that I heard a scream from my wife. As I rushed out, I saw blood everywhere from the machete injury Edikan had inflicted on her. Since the incident, I have yet to see Edikan,” he said.

John said the matter had been reported to the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Cordelia Nwawe, did not pick his calls and had yet to reply to a text message sent to her mobile phone as of press time.
