For allegedly stabbing his tenant to death, Gbade Metibemu is to be remanded at the Ikoyi Prison pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
Metibemu, 34, was charged with murder before magistrate K.A. Ariyo of an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on Thursday; but his plea was not taken.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the police prosecutor, Corporal Hafsat Ajibodu, said the accused committed the offence on July 2, 2016, on Apollo Street, Makoko, Lagos.
“The accused and the deceased, Bright Chineme, had an argument over where the deceased’s wife should dispose off her used water in the compound.
“In the course of the argument, Metibemu picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed the deceased to death,” the prosecutor told the court.
Ajibodu added that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011, and could be tried in lower courts, including magistrate’s courts.
NAN stated that Section 221 the Criminal Law of Lagos State prescribed a death sentence for convicts.
