The newly inaugurated Zonal Intervention Squad Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Abdulmajid Ali, has intercepted 26 vehicles stolen in Lagos and Ogun States.
Also in the period under review, the ZIS operatives arrested nine suspects and recovered 17 locally-manufactured automobile ‘master keys’ with which the suspects often opened different types of vehicles, mostly Toyota brands.
Ali made this known on Wednesday in Abeokuta during the official inauguration of the ZIS office complex and tactical training ground located along the Abeokuta-Sango/Ota Expressway at Obada-Oko, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun state.
The AIG said he was compelled to establish the Zonal Intervention Squad in order to make it serve as buffer force in assisting security operatives in Ogun and Lagos commands, which fall under his supervisions, in effectively maintaining law and order.
Ali said, “The establishment of the ZIS operatives, which comprised personnel from the Special Anti Robbery Squad in Lagos and Ogun commands, will also enable police to quickly respond to distress calls from residents within the zone.”
Ali, who said police officers from other states such as Edo and Delta, would be making use of the facility for training, however, warned that the zone under his supervision would not condone “any act of indiscipline or misconduct from any of its personnel.”
