Police parade 38 robbery suspects in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command on Friday paraded 38 armed robbery suspects arrested across the thirteen local government areas of the state.

The police also rescued a six-year-old girl, who was kidnapped by a 35-year-old man, Lanre Cole. He was arrested along with an accomplice, Abayomi Adebowale.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that the second suspect is a relative of the girl’s mother, Mrs. Adetutu Adebowale.

The police said three other suspects connected to the abduction were still at large.

The suspects were said to have abducted the girl and made away with her mother’s jewellery, phones and a Honda Acura SUV, which were later recovered.

Parading the suspects in Lafia, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abubakar Bello, explained that the suspects were apprehended at different locations in the state between July and August, 2016.

Bello added that the command also recovered from the suspects four cars, guns and live ammunition.

The police boss said his men rescued two Chinese nationals from kidnappers at Toto in Toto Local Government Area of the state after a sustained pressure was mounted on the kidnappers by a combined effort of the police and other security agencies.

Also arrested by the police was a gang of car snatchers who included a pastor – Stephen Odoh. The other members of the gang are Steve Chima and Isaac Faase. The suspects reportedly snatched a
Toyota Sienna belonging to one Mrs. Oguayemi Obiageli of Kari-kari in Karu Local Government Area of the state.

The police also paraded Dogara Gallo (47) and Haliru Liman (60), who were arrested in Lafia following an N8.2m fraud.

They were said to have admitted to committing the crime.

However, reacting to reports that the dreaded sect, Ombatse, had re-organised in the state, Bello said the police in the state did not have any concrete evidence of such development.

He said the police were taking a proactive measure to forestall any incident that would lead to the breach of peace in the state.

Meanwhile, he disclosed that 5,000 personnel would be deployed during the Sallah celebration to protect lives and property and also discourage criminal activities.
