A 32-year-old cobbler, Ganiu Anjorin, and a salesgirl at a supermarket on Dosunmu Street, Lagos Island, Lagos State, Opeyemi Suarau, have been arraigned by the police for allegedly stealing the sum of N11.4m, belonging to a businesswoman, Omobola Akintoye.
The defendants were brought before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on three counts of stealing.
The police alleged that Suarau, who worked at the supermarket, connived with the cobbler, who is her boyfriend, to perpetrate the crime between February and July, 2016.
While the salesgirl reportedly got N400,000 from the sum, the cobbler allegedly collected N11m.
A police prosecutor, Mr. Jimoh Joseph, told the court that the offence contravened sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The charge read in part, “That you, Ganiu Anjorin, between February and July, 2016, at 47 Dosunmu Street, Lagos Island, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal the sum of N11m, property of one Omobola Akintoye.”
The defendants pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Soladoye, granted them bail in the sum of N1m each with two sureties each in like sum. The case was adjourned.
