Teacher jailed one month for assaulting lady

A Grade 1 Area Court, Karmo, Life Camp, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 29-year-old teacher, Albert Isaac, to one month imprisonment for assault and mischief.

The Area Court judge, Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge and begged for leniency.

Sadiq, however, gave the teacher an option to pay N5,000 as fine, and warned him to desist from committing crimes.

Isaac of Zango Daura Estate, Kado, Abuja, was convicted on a two-count charge of assault and mischief.

The convict prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, adding that it was the devil that made him act that way he did.

“I don’t beat ladies because I respect them a lot,’’ Isaac said.

Prosecutor Zannah Dalhatu had told the court that Emilola Efosa of Kuje, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station, Abuja, on October 23.

Dalhatu said that the complainant entered a tricycle from Galadimawa Gate by Gwarimpa to Airport Junction, Abuja, and the convict later joined.

He said that on getting to 3rd Avenue by Mr Biggs, Gwarimpa, the convict pointed at her and tore her dress valued at N35,000.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 268 and 327 of the Penal Code.
