NSCDC arrests suspected cattle thief in Jigawa


The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Jigawa, has arrested a 30-year-old man (name withheld) for allegedly stealing a bull valued at N180,000.

The Jigawa Commandant of the corps, Mr Muhammad Durumin-Iya, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Dutse that the suspect was arrested in Maikwaki village on Thursday at about 1am.

He explained that the suspect was arrested after he stole a bull belonging to Malam Muhammad Sani of Zarenawa village in Birninkudu town and was thoroughly beaten.

The commandant said the suspect was rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Birninkudu, to have his head stitched due to the beating he received from the locals.


According to the commandant, items recover from the suspect includes a machete.
He said the suspect would soon appear in court after the conclusion of NSCDC investigation.

However, the owner of the stolen bull, Sani, said the suspect got to his home at about 12 midnight and released three of his cattle from their tethers.

Sani said, “I was already slumbering when I heard some noise around 12 midnight, so I decided to peep and see what was happening.

“Surprisingly, I discovered that four of them were missing already, so I shouted for help.

“So, all my neighbours and other villagers woke-up and we began to look for the animals and we found three of them in the bush.

“So one of us sighted an unknown person trying to do away with a bull, we trailed him and we were able to apprehend him in Maikwai village.”
