The suspects were identified as Abdulahi Anaruwa and Mohammed Suleiman, while their victim was one Garuba Mohammed.
The suspects reportedly killed Garuba in an attempt to steal his cow at the Itadodo area of Ofada. The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 28.
Our correspondent learnt that the herdsmen lured their victim to a nearby bush and cut him with matchets.
Garuba was reportedly grazing his herd of cattle when he was killed.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said luck ran against the suspects when a motorcyclist passing by caught them in the act, and alerted the people of the area.
He said the residents later called the police.
Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the Divisional Police Officer of Owode Egba division, Sheu Alao, led his men to the scene and arrested the men.
He said, “The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
“The CP warned that crime and criminality would have no place in the state, and that those who were hell bent on committing crimes would have the police command to contend with.”
