For the fourth time in one month, cattle rustlers have invaded Gbaka village in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
It was learnt that no fewer than 700 cows and unspecified number of goats and sheep were stolen.
But while the villagers claimed that they lost four of their relations, the police said there was no loss of life in the incident that occurred late Tuesday.
Our correspondent however learnt that three people injured in the attack were brought to the Minna General Hospital on Wednesday for treatment.
Some of the injured reportedly had gunshot wounds while others had deep machete cuts.
Investigation revealed that the rustlers arrived in the village around 6pm and started shooting sporadically to scare away the villagers.
“It was in this process that four of our people were killed and others injured,” a villager told Northern City News, adding, “We are still searching for some of our people that ran into the bush.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana confirmed the incident, but said, “We have not received report of any death.”
Elkana also said that no arrest had been made but added that the special anti-rustling squad of the command had been mobilised to the area.
In the last three weeks, no fewer than 12 people had been killed by suspected cattle rustlers in the local government area while over 1300 cattle were stolen.
The police have been able to arrest four suspects in connection with the previous incidents and recovered 400 cattle.
