Battering: Mother of six seeks divorce after 20 years

A housewife, Mrs Olabosede Oke, on Wednesday prayed an Ado-Ekiti Customary Court to dissolve her 20-year-old marriage over alleged constant beating by her husband.

Forty-two-year–old Olabosede, a resident of Odo-Ado, Ado-Ekiti, told the court that her husband, Segun, beat her each time she requested for feeding allowance.

She also said that Segun was not interested in the welfare of their six children.

“He does not provide food for the house or pay the children’s school fees,’’ Olabosede submitted.

The petitioner added that her husband lacked respect for her parents.

She said that there was no more love in the marriage, and urged the court to grant her the custody of the children.

Responding, Segun denied the allegations, saying that he had never beaten his wife.

He told the court that he regularly provided foodstuffs at home and paid the children’s school fees.

The President of the Court, Mr Joseph Ogunsemi, adjourned the case to Jan. 12 for possible reconciliation of the estranged couple.
