Man jailed six months for stealing batteries, assault

An Iyaganku Senior Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Friday sentenced one Kehinde Akinpade, 33, to three months’ imprisonment for stealing two batteries from a vehicle parked on the street he resided.

The Senior Magistrate, Mrs. Patricia Adetuyibi, said, “Having found the convict guilty of the offence and seeing that he was not in a good frame of mind, the court sees that he needs rehabilitation.

“Therefore, the convict is sentenced to three months’ community service within the four walls of the Agodi Prison starting from November 25, that he was arraigned before the court.”

Akinpade, a drug addict, who lives in the Akinpade area of Akobo, Ibadan, was arraigned on one count of theft.

The prosecutor, Philip Amusan, told the court that Akinpade stole the two batteries from a vehicle marked, FKJ 94 FJ, valued at N70,000.

He said the convict committed the offence on November 23, at about 10am in the Akinpade area.

Akinpade was also sentenced to another three months’ imprisonment by the same magistrate for assault.

Amusan said the defendant on November 10 assaulted one Folorunso Adewuyi by attacking him with a cutlass.

Akinpade also pleaded guilty to the crime.
