NDLEA laments drug use by married women in Niger

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has stated that the use of control drugs was more prevalent among married women in Pandogari area of Rafi Local Government of Niger State.

The Area Commander of NDLEA in Rafi, Abdu Shinga, disclosed this when he appeared before the Justice Abdullahi Maikail Commission of Inquiry set up by the state government to investigate the civil disturbances at Pandogari, Lambata and Barkuta communities in Rafi, Paikoro and Bosso local government areas of the state.

Shinga said the issue of drug abuse was a secretive thing everywhere and Pandogari was not an exception, noting that the married women were hooked on it.

He said, “Those involved in the use of control drugs were now few in both in Pandogari and Kagara areas, but the major problem they were having now is with the married women.”

He lamented the lack of logistics to carry out his job in a dignified manner, adding that he could not remember the last time he carried out an operation in Pandogari.

“We were only five in this area command covering both Rafi and Wushishi Local Government areas.”

We have no vehicle for operation and I cannot remember when last we went to Pandogari for an operation, it is unfortunate,” he lamented.
