Bus conductor charged with assaulting police officer

A 35-year-old commercial bus conductor, Edet Eno, was yesterday docked at Igbosere Magistrates’ Court for allegedly hitting a police officer with a baton.

Eno pleaded not guilty and was granted N100, 000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

Magistrate O. O. Otitoloju said the sureties must be the defendant’s relatives.

She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and adjourned the case.

Earlier, prosecuting police Sergeant Ejime Okete told the court that the accused committed the offence on January 6, at 2pm at Obalende bus stop, Lagos.

He said the accused dragged a baton from John Alegbe, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), and hit him with it.

“The police officer was doing his lawful duty when the accused assaulted him,” Okete said.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
