Driver ‘steals’ master’s car’

Court remands pool clerk over client’s death

The police have charged a driver, Mathias Isha, with the theft of his employer’s properties including a Toyota Camry car worth N1.8million.

Isha, 28, and Sunday Akah were arraigned yesterday before Mrs O. Kusanu of the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court.

Isha is standing trial on three counts of conspiracy and stealing; Akah was charged with receiving stolen property, according to the charge marked K/08/2017.

Prosecuting Sergeant Edward Biodun said last November 28, at about 2pm on the Banana Island, Lagos home of Mrs Aminat Gbajabiamila, Isha stole household items including three plasma television sets, three wall fans, one stereo, computers and 30 bottles of liquor valued at N4million.

The police alleged that last December 17, at about 12:30am on Banana Island, Isha absconded with a 2005 model Toyota Camry car with number SMK318DD belonging to Gbajabiamila and attempted to sell it in Kogi State.

Akah was accused of unlawfully receiving part of the stolen items.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened sections 285, 326 and 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The defendants pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Kusanu granted them N300,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum and adjourned.
