Police arrest man for ‘dehumanising’ employee

Police arrest man for 'dehumanising' employee

Operatives of the Metro Police and Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested an engineer, Wole Odunuga, who allegedly tied his employee and locked him inside Hilux Van marked SMK 707 CA enroute Abuja.

The suspect was arrested Wednesday night around 7-Up by the Alausa Tollgate, after policemen chased him from Ketu/Ojota Flyover for refusing to stop.

Odunuga was said to be a lone traveler, whose refusal to obey the policemen, propelled them to check his vehicle when it was forcefully stopped.

According to the police, the officers were shocked to see the victim, Daniel Dabis, at the trunk of the white Hilux, with his legs and hands tied to his back.

Upon interrogation, the suspect was said to have claimed that Dabis stole his money at Abuja and absconded to Lagos, adding that he was taking him back to Abuja to answer for his offence.

He said: “I have been searching for him all over the place, which took me to his village in Plateau State. It was one of his friends that told me he was in Lagos, where he was hiding. Precisely, I was hinted he was staying at Mile 12 Market, Ketu.

“I drove down from Abuja and I met him at Mile 12 Market, Ketu, where I picked him up. Initially, I had taken him down to Ketu Divisional Police Station, Lagos, to incident the matter, but the officers at the station declined to detain him there. “So, I had no option than to take him back to Abuja. That was what I was trying to do before I was accosted by the police team on routine patrol under the Ketu/Ojota flyover.”

However, Dabis who denied stealing the suspect’s money said he only took his ladder and barrow.

He said: “What I took from him were a ladder and a wheel barrow. He is estimating the cost of the wheel barrow at N110, 000 and the ladder, N90, 000, that is all I took from him. Because of that he tied my legs and hands to my back.

“His plan was to drive me to Abuja in that manner if not for these officers; he would have killed me and dumped my body at the road side.”
