A 33-year-old gatekeeper, David Agba, who allegedly stole a generator worth N134,000 from his employer, was on Wednesday brought before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.


The accused, a resident of Satelite Town area of Lagos, is facing a charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Olusegun Kokoye, told the court that the accused, who entered a ‘not-guilty’ plea, committed the offence on May 11 at Premier Hotel, Babawa Bus Stop, Satellite Town, Lagos.

He alleged that the accused stole a generator worth N134,000 belonging to Premier Hotel.


Kokoye said that the generator had a fault, so the complainant stopped using it for a while, since there was another one.

The prosecutor said that when the gatekeeper noticed that they had abandoned the generator, he decided to steal it.

Kokoye said that when the management discovered that the generator was missing,they confronted Agba, who denied knowing anything about it.

He said that the management reported the case to the police and Agba was arrested as a suspect, since he was in charge of guarding the building.

The prosecutor noted that the offence contravened Sections 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three-year jail term for a person convicted of stealing.


The Magistrate, Mr M.A Etti, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
