A 22-year-old lady who said she was sacked because she went to work without wearing a bra has laid bare her complaint on her Facebook page.

A woman has claimed she was sacked from her job at a bar in Hull after refusing to wear a bra to work.

The 22-year-old, who is named as Kate Hannah on Facebook, posted an image of herself in a T-shirt after claiming bosses had let her go for not wearing a bra.

The bar, the Bird and Beer in Beverley, has since denied the allegations, claiming no one has been dismissed.

But Kate claimed that she had been let go after inappropriate sexual remarks were made towards her at work and her manager told her not to return unless she wore a bra.

She added: ‘So, I’ve just got home after being sacked from my job, for refusing to wear a bra.

‘Yesterday an inappropriate sexual remark was made to me, by my manager’s brother, and in the presence of her. I felt uncomfortable, objectified and shocked that this had happened.

‘Unfortunately, she saw fit to deal with the situation by telling me that I’m not allowed into work in future unless I’m wearing a bra. This was said to me in front of three other staff members and customers.

‘Leaving me feeling body shamed and completely shocked that the blame was being put onto me that I had been sexually harassed at work. She called me stupid, silly and over the top when I told her I was upset.

She added: ‘I am absolutely disgusted with the blatant lack of respect for my right as a woman to wear whatever makes me personally comfortable. I feel so sad.’
The Bird and Beer has denied the allegations

The bar responded by disputing Kate’s version of events.

It said: ‘In response to the recent alleged allegations towards Bird & Beer We wish to make the following statement. We can confirm that no employees have been dismissed from the company regarding these allegations.

‘We have a duty of care to protect all of our employees from any discrimination or sexual harassment within the workplace and we take any comments towards our employees very seriously and act upon them immediately in a professional manner.

‘At this moment in time, we will not be making any further comments.’
