Police nab woman who arranged own kidnap in Ibadan - Shepherd Digest Magazine

A thirty-seven-year-old Ibadan business woman, Bukola Ogun, who confessed to have arranged her kidnap to fraudulently obtain large sum of money from her husband has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command.

Two kidnap suspects, Kayode Adepoju (37) and Olalekan Annanfi (34), who carried out the deal were also arrested in their hideout at Imalefalafia area of Ibadan by the police.

Looking dejected, in a blue spotted gown, Ogun, who told newsmen that her intention was to force her husband to submit to her request to help her travel to the United States of America, said she didn’t know it would get her into trouble.

Ogun was among the 12 criminal suspects paraded by the Oyo State Police Command, Eleyele, Ibadan.
Briefing newsmen, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Odude, explained how men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the state command arrested the woman, who masterminded her own kidnap along with two others.

“The incident happened around 7:45p.m. on July 4, 2017 when three armed hoodlums stormed the residence of the supposed victim and ‘kidnapped’ her to an unknown destination. Barely four hours later, the suspects contacted the victim’s husband and demanded N10 million ransom as a condition for his wife’s release.

“Unknown to him that the kidnap was actually arranged by his wife, the hapless husband reported the case to the police. Following the report, operatives of the Special Ant-Robbery Squad began a manhunt for the hoodlums.

“During investigation, two male suspects were arrested, who let out the cat out of the bag as operatives were stunned to discover that the victim was the architect of the phantom kidnap. To pull the wool over everyone’s eyes, the woman lodged in a hotel at Imalefalafia area of Ibadan for three days while frantic efforts were being made to rescue her.”

Ogun, who felt remorse for her inordinate ambition told newsmen that she decided to go back home after spending three days in the hotel room. On why she framed her kidnap, she said “nothing, I just woke up one day and decided I want my husband take me out of the country, so that he can use his American citizenship passport to take me out of the country. It all started like a child play. That’s all.”
