A jealous lover, Ahmed Ibrahim, who allegedly damaged a hotel’s property while searching for his girlfriend reportedly lodging with a man, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Ibrahim was, however, released on N20,000 bail.
Thirty-five-year-old Ibrahim who is a bureau de change operator, lives at Bolaji Street, Agege, Lagos, and is facing a two-count of willful damage to property and breach of peace, to which he pleaded ‘not guilty.’
The magistrate, Mrs. G.O. Anifowoshe, who gave the ruling, said the accused should also provide one surety in like sum.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Victor Eruada, insisted that the accused committed the offences on July 8 at Demesco Hotel located at Oke-Koto, Agege.
He said the accused intentionally damaged 15 glass cups valued at N25,000 and a carton of Star lager beer valued at N1,500, property of Demesco Hotel.
Eruada alleged that the accused came to the hotel and started shouting that his girlfriend was lodging with a man there and that the management should provide her. In the process, he started damaging property.
He alleged further that the manager of the hotel, Mr. Paul Nbareze, who was the complainant, had asked the accused to pay for all the damaged items but he refused.
“The complainant reported the case to the Police and the accused was immediately arrested.’’
The offences contravened sections 168 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the accused may be sentenced to two years in prison on conviction, according to the Criminal Law.
