Suspected hoodlums have hacked a middle-aged man, identified as Osasu Omoruyi, to death in the Oredo Local Government of Edo State.

Southern City News learnt on Tuesday that the deceased, was abducted by the armed men from a popular bar along Sakponba Road in Benin, the state capital.

It was also gathered that Omoruyi was taken to Uwa Street, off First East Circular road where he was said to have been gruesomely killed.

It was learnt that some policemen were later invited by sympathisers to remove the lifeless body, which was subsequently deposited in a morgue.

The Police Public Relations Officers in Edo, Moses Nkombe, who confirmed the incident, said the police had begun a manhunt for the suspects.

Nkombe, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, however, called on residents to assist the agency with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of the crime.

A resident in the area, who did not want his name in print, said that the assailants dismembered Omoruyi at about 12am last Friday.

The source said, “Due to power outage on Friday, I was relaxing on the balcony of my house at about 11:50pm when I saw a saloon car driving into my street.

“The car later reversed and, suddenly, I saw two men dragging a young man out of the car. They told their victim to seat on the ground and were yelling at him.

“One of the men afterwards ran into the car and brought out a cutlass which he used to dismember his body.”
