An Osogbo Magistrates’ Court has remanded a 27-year-old man, Rasaki Gafaru, in custody for alleged rape of a job seeker.
Gafaru was arraigned by the police before the magistrate’s court, presided over by Mrs Falilat Sodamade, on two counts of rape and assault on Monday.
The police prosecutor, Elisha Olusegun, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 11, 2018, in Ido Osun.
Olusegun told the court that the accused had “an unlawful carnal knowledge” of the victim, who said she was a job seeker.
The charge read in part, “That you, Gafaru Rasak, on July 11, 2018, at about 2pm hours at the Ido Osun area, Osogbo, in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did have unlawful carnal knowledge of one ( name witheld), thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume 11, Law of Osun Sate of Nigeria, 2002.
The magistrate ordered that the accused be remanded in the Ilesha Prison.
She also ruled that the case file should be duplicated and sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
