A 25-year-old man, Uchenna Okoye, who allegedly attacked a woman and snatched her bag and wristwatch, on Wednesday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Okoye is facing two counts charge of conspiracy and theft to which he pleaded not guilty.
He was admitted to bail in the sum of N50,000.
Police prosecutor, Oluwafemi Adeleye, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 18 around 5.50am, opposite Shoprite, Sangotedo, on the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
He said the accused snatched the wristwatch and bag of one Charity Onyekwera which contained her phone and ATM cards.
“While the complainant was waiting for her staff bus, the accused and his accomplice attacked her.
“The accused snatched Onyekwera’s wristwatch, while his accomplice who snatched the bag escaped, but Okoye was apprehended.”
The offences were said to have contravened sections 287 (5), (a) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mrs F. M. Dalley, who granted the bail, said the accused should provide one responsible surety, who must be his relation.
