A 40-year-old carpenter, Adewunmi Adedoyin has been arraigned before an Owode-Egba Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old girl in Magboro, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The suspect who was arraigned before Magistrate I.O Abudu was accused of committing the offence which contravenes Section 218 of the Criminal Code vol 1 Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria 2006 and punishable under the same law.
The suspect who is a resident of 58 Miracle Avenue, Magboro Ibafo allegedly committed the offence on October 18, 2015 when he was apprehended by neighbours who heard the cry of the victim.
The victim’s mother was said to be away in church located few metres away when the suspect allegedly went into her home and defiled her daughter.
The suspect was said to have been immediately handed over to the police in Ibafo and later transferred to the state Police Headquarters in Abeokuta.
The mother of the victim on Wednesday, told newsmen that the arrest of the suspect was made possible by her neighbours because she was in the church when the information got to her and had to rush down to the police station.
She said the victim was later taken to a private hospital in the town for examination, but the Doctor insisted on the payment of N15,000 medical bill before he could release the result.
The victim’s mother however lamented that she could not afford to pay the medical bill and appealed for assistance from Nigerians.
M e a n w h i l e , Magistrate Abudu has ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case till December 21, 2015.
