Gunmen kill 82-year-old chief priest in Edo


Unidentified gunmen have shot dead an 82-year-old community leader, identified as Pa Clifford Omosomwan,‎ in Aruogba, Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.

‎It was learnt that Omosomwan was also the Chief Priest (Ohen-Ogba) of Aruogba community.

According to sources, the octogenarian was shot, after the assailants gained entry into his apartment at about 1am on Thursday.

The source said the partially blind man was shut twice in the head at a close range.

The remains had been deposited at the military hospital on Airport Road in Benin, the state capital.

‎When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Osifo, said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.

The violence in Aruogba community which has been ongoing for over a year now, had also claimed the life of the assistant head of the community, Mr. Goodluck Uwumahongie. He was beheaded in January, 2015, during a clash over the sale of a piece of land.

According o reports, the head of the late man, who had since been buried, was taken away ‎and had not been recovered.
